July 9, 2005: The ADHA family deer day was a huge success. I must say, we had way more folks than we anticipated being there. The nature center tried to keep track and said a total
of around 450 people came through. The tally on the simulators was around 100
kids shooting the hunting simulator, and around 70 kids shooting the bows and BB guns. We
gave out 260 hotdogs and brats. We also passed out about 150 ADHA pamphlets to interested hunters.
In the meeting room with the speakers, I counted 60 people attending the lectures, with some standing in the back. The fawn albino deer was a huge success, lots of kids got to see the fawn. We hade a nice article in Sundays Jonesboro Sun Newspaper covering the ADHA event with a picture of the kids, the fawn and a few ADHA members.
The ADHA would like to thank, Cory Gray, State Deer program coordinator, Matt Finley
QDMA, Lynn Fair, local area private land biologist, Brian and Tom from the Forestry Commission, Brian from the enforcement division, and Jodi and Barbara for all the volunteer help they gave. Last but not least Chance Woods with the AGFC, for his dedication with working with the kids out there in the hot sun. The Speakers and Mr. Woods came to this on their off day to speak, and we really appreciate their talks and I feel many hunters left having a better understanding on many different aspects of management to their land and their region deer herd, and some of the states programs.
Dan Melton of Jonesboro brought the albino fawn, and really did a good job showing the deer, and
it was a huge success with the kids. We appreciate that.
We also want to say thanks to all the members who helped on this project and that came out today,
and the many hunters that came by and thanked us for holding the event, for them and their kids.
Here are a few picturs from the event.
